Rickie Fowler’s Sudden Fallout With Longtime Sponsors: Unfolding Why He No Longer Wants to Be the Poster Boy

Rickie Fowler has been in the news recently for his much-talked-about appearance at the Sentry with two missing logos from his apparel. This has sparked curiosity as to why the formerly famous poster boy decided to make such big, uncharacteristic changes. Well, Fowler’s foremost reason to change his poster boy self is because he is a family man now and doesn’t want to play as many events as he did before.

In a recent interview with Golfweek Fowler said, “Time is valuable, and I don’t want to overextend myself. Ten years ago, single me, it was a lot easier to use that time for work-related stuff. Now, I want to make sure it’s worthwhile and with the right people. I don’t want to be a billboard or NASCAR driver type of thing, but I do want to have a good, core group of partners.”

Looks like Fowler, who has been one of the most in-demand players for endorsements, isn’t necessarily scaling back his involvement in endorsing products. He said he remains open for business for the right opportunities.

Rickie Fowler can be understood from the reasoning he gave to not renew his contract with Farmers Insurance, and maybe also why a renewal (despite affirmations that it will surface soon) has not been brought to light yet. Another dimension to this can be the fact that, despite struggling to remain on top of his game in the past few years, Fowler has now finally come to a place where he has improved in the last year and jumped up more than 100 spots to No. 14 in the final FedEx Cup standings. Some have also equated this to his choice of playing fewer but better events in the past, which helped him work on his overall game.

As opposed to what many fans initially assumed after the news of Farmers Insurance and Rocket Mortgage possibly not renewing their deals with Fowler, the pro is not moving to LIV Golf. The 35-year-old was quick to clarify his intentions about LIV Golf. In a statement, he made clear that he had no plans to shift to the other side after such suspicions were brought to light. He also clarified how he values those who are working to make the merger a reality.
