Ryder Cup villain now ‘calling the shots’ and has been compared to Tiger Woods
Patrick Cantlay has been no stranger to controversy in 2023, but it appears the American has quite the influence on the PGA Tour.
Patrick Cantlay is allegedly ‘calling the shots’ after taking up a role on the PGA Tour’s Policy Board, and has even earned a comparison to the great Tiger Woods. Where Cantlay has gone in 2023, controversy has never been too far behind.
The American star became the pantomime villain at the recent Ryder Cup, where he found himself at the centre of the drama on, and off the course. According to Sky Sports, Cantlay had led a ‘split’ within the Team USA locker room during their time at Marco Simone, which proved to be a week to forget.
Cantlay was said to have been unhappy with not being paid to represent his country on the Ryder Cup stage, and allegedly then refused to wear a cap in protest. The saga known as ‘capgate’ then followed, which even led to his caddie Joe LaCava being involved in a heated exchange with European talisman Rory McIlroy following their clash on day two of the event.
Whilst he was failing to gain much support on this side of the Atlantic, it appeared his influence in the U.S. was gaining traction. The PGA Tour has found itself in a state of chaos in recent months, and things only worsened when starman Jon Rahm became the latest name to join LIV Golf.
