Roger Federer’s ex-coach details why Swiss’ wife Mirka deserves more credit

Roger Federer’s former coach Paul Annacone thinks Mirka Federer deserves to be given more credit for how she supported the Swiss tennis icon during his career. Annacone, who started working with Federer in 2010 August, was a part of the Swiss’ team until 2013 October.

During their time together, Federer won one Grand Slam and Annacone had a chance to get a closer look at how everything was functioning around the Swiss. According to Annacone, Federer has always the best possible supporter and partner in his wife Mirka.

“He had a great team around him. Tony [Godsick] was awesome. Mirka doesn’t get enough credit. She’s amazing. She really is someone that understood tennis and understands her husband so well. Not only with the tennis, but also with who he became as an icon.

She’s incredible that she managed all that. Without Severin Luthi and Pierre [Paganini], it would’ve been tough. I was just lucky. I was just one granule of salt in that big whole shaker of ingredients,” Annacone said, via the Rock n Roll Tennis Podcast.

What Mirka said about Federer in 2004?
When Federer and Mirka met and started dating in 2000, they were both pro tennis players. Two years later, Mirka retired while Federer went on to become a Grand Slam champion in 2003 and later become an absolute tennis legend.

“When Roger wins, it’s as if I were winning too. I feel it so intensely and I know what it means. He shares everything with me. On some level, Roger gives me back my tennis life. I enjoy being back on tour. And now everything is even more intense than in the time when I played myself, since he’s number one,” Mirka said about Federer in 2004.
