Rickie Fowler got close to his first major win but fell short on Sunday.
Instead, Wyndham Clark is your winner of the 2023 US Open at Los Angeles Country Club, just a month after his first PGA Tour victory.
As you may know, Clark lost his mother to breast cancer when he was 19 and in college at Oklahoma State. She was, of course, very much on Clark’s mind on Sunday, and Fowler had a moment with the golfer that was captured by cameras.
What did Fowler say? He was asked by reporters after the final round and here’s what he said he told Clark:
I told him obviously congrats and proud of him, him being a guy that was at Oklahoma State. He obviously didn’t finish there. He went to Oregon to finish up, but he’s still a Cowboy. We had a good time the last two days. I feel like we both enjoy going out and chatting throughout the round and keeping it fairly — try and keep things light, but it’s still a major in the final group the last two days. Then yeah, the last — I went back in there and just said, your mom was with you. She’d be very proud.
