‘Found a Lot of Checks..’ – Venus and Serena Williams’ Mother Oracene Price Narrated an Anecdote of How Money Never Mattered to the Sisters
Serena Williams shares a great bond with her elder sister Venus Williams. They are one of the most successful sibling duos on the WTA tour. They share a great bond and stand up for each other, both on the tennis court and in their personal lives.
Almost everyone knows about the influence of their father, Richard Williams, on the sisters’ careers. However, one person who is often left out is their mother, Oracene Price. Price once sat down for an interview and talked candidly about the lives of her two champion daughters.
Price cherishes her daughter’s tender years.
Oracene Price has always been proud of her daughters and how far they have come. In a throwback interview given to the Post, Price mentioned that “Serena and her sister have always been head to head when it comes to tennis. In their younger years, when Serena and her sister Venus, now 36, lost a game, they would simply run off the court.”
“Serena loves competing and loves the trophy. So if she and Venus lost, they would just leave their [prize] money there because, to them, all they cared about was bringing home the trophy and accomplishing the goal,” added Price. “The accountant found a lot of checks that they had left behind. He had to change the way they got paid,” she said, with a laugh.
