Brooks Koepka response to being handed extra £3.3m on top of prize speaks volumes of LIV

LIV golfers may not be able to earn world ranking points but as Brooks Koepka can testify, the prize money they receive possibly more than makes up for it.

Brooks Koepka quickly got over the disappointment of seeing his brother relegated from the LIV golf league by winning an extra £3m for himself that he didn’t know about. The US PGA Championship winner was victorious in Jeddah on Sunday, beating Talor Gooch in a sudden-death playoff after both players finished on 14 under par for the tournament at the Royal Greens club.

Koepka was already assured of the £3.3m prize money for winning the title when he was informed by an interviewer that he had also moved up to third in the LIV golf league final standings as a result, landing the American another £3.3m taking his weekend earnings to around £6.6m.

“Do you have any idea that you finished third in the individual standings today with this finish, with this win?” Koepka was asked. “You just won $4m extra.”

A relatively unanimated Koepka responded by saying: “Sweet. That’s a good feeling.”

The bemused interviewer added: “No kidding. Want to share some of it?” But Koepka quickly side-stepped the cheeky request by simply adding: “Thanks for breaking that news.”
