Who Are Tiger Woods’ Parents? All You Need to Know About the Strict Earl and Kultida Woods
Tiger Woods, the golfing legend, has captured the hearts of millions with his extraordinary talent and dedication to the sport. Behind his success, there are two individuals who have played a pivotal role in shaping his life and career: his parents, Earl and Kultida Woods.
Like in the life of every other child, Tiger Woods too drew heavy inspiration from his parents. They instilled in him values and ethics that drove him to the place where he is today. His father was the one who introduced him to the game.
Earl Woods, the father of golfing legend Tiger Woods, played a significant role in shaping his son’s life and career. He was an African-American who was also a talented athlete who excelled in baseball during his high school years.
He was the first African-American to participate at the Big Eight Conference, breaking racial barriers in collegiate sports. He went on to join the US Army and then served his nation for 20 years. Her served at the Vietnam war as well as in Thailand.
It was in Thailand that he met Kultida who was working as a secretary on the Army base. This meeting was the life-changing love story. He went on to marry Kultida in 1969. In 1975, the couple had a child whom they named Eldrick Tont Woods. No prizes for guessing! He is our own Tiger Woods.
Earl Woods was also a published author and wrote his first book in 1997 — same year Woods won The Masters — titled “Training a Tiger: Raising a Winner in Both Golf and Life” and subsequently another book in 1998 called “Playing Through Straight Talk on Hard Work, Big Dreams, and Adventures with Tiger.”
He was also diagnosed with prostate cancer in the same year. Despite all the health struggles he went through, he continued to be a truly devoted father supporting his son’s golfing endeavors. He died in 2006 but left behind a legacy for his son. He passed away but to this date, Tiger carries in him a strong work ethic, mental resilience and a desire to succeed, all inculcated in him by his father.
When his father died, Tiger wrote, “My dad was my best friend and greatest role model, and I will miss him deeply. I’m overwhelmed when I think of all of the great things he accomplished in his life. He was an amazing dad, coach, mentor, soldier, husband and friend.”
