Iga Swiatek gives an honest analysis of her physical condition
Iga Swiatek has had some ups and downs in 2023, showing a physical condition that is not always optimal, as also highlighted in the last period. This week the WTA tournament in Beijing will be played, and Iga will be one of the protagonists of the tournament.
The number two on the circuit spoke at a press conference on the eve of the Chinese tournament: “I hope playing here for the first time will be nice. Honestly I came here for the first time and I don’t know what will happen.
But I’m really excited to play the China Open. Let’s hope this will be a good week.”
She also comments on the final part of the season, with Iga who talked about her expectations could: “I think it’s a little easier to go back to the mentality of chasing, it’s something we’ve all done our whole lives.
cThere is only one tennis player at number one and I think it was more difficult to get used to the first position than to chase, this is the difference I have experienced in the last year and a half.
So a different Iga? I don’t think it will be much different, I feel that I am going in the right direction anyway and these two weeks between training and matches have been very useful for me.
In Tokyo I felt rusty, it’s not easy to come back after several weeks of stopping.”
Finally on Chinese culture: “Honestly I spent little time in China and I don’t know Chinese culture well but I’m curious and I’ll see especially at the end of the tournament.
I’m happy to be here, everything looks great. In the next few days I will evaluate this place better, but I have an open and positive mind, I feel really good.”
