Man City man brutally told he ‘is not good enough’ and should jump at joining Liverpool
Frank McAvennie has detailed his belief that Kalvin Phillips “is not getting into” the Manchester City team, and Pep Guardiola thinks he “is not good enough” so he should move to Liverpool if given the chance.
Guardiola often signs players and doesn’t integrate them into the first-team initially. However, down the line, they become stars for the club: Rodri and John Stones are a couple of examples from his time at City.
Phillips might have expected that would be the same for him as he played for a combined 593 minutes in all competitions last season after a £42million move from Leeds. He’s yet to play this season, though, and McAvennie believes he’ll never break through at the Etihad.
“Fair enough he wants to fight for his place but I could tell him right now he is not getting in to the Man City team. Sometimes you just have to say ‘I gave it a go, pay me up and I will go somewhere else’,” McAvennie told Football Insider.
The somewhere else he could find himself at may be Liverpool. Indeed, the Reds are apparently in the mix for him, after Jurgen Klopp “made calls for four or five midfielders”.
McAvennie believes Phillips should jump at a move to Anfield if it’s offered to him.
“If you have got the chance of going to Liverpool take it, as it’s a huge move.
