With His American Dream in Jeopardy, Rickie Fowler Faces a Formidable Challenge From 6x PGA Tour Champion: ‘Just as Bad’
You might just get lucky and the captain may pick you, but sometimes, things may turn out differently than expected. After all, the team’s skipper also has a tough choice to make. There are many golfers whose Ryder Cup is hanging in Zach Johnson’s hand, and one of those is Rickie Fowler. But now, Fowler is facing a face-off against the PGAT pro, who equally wants to be on the US team!
Before the golfers moved on to East Lake Golf Club for the Tour Championship, they played hard to prove their form, to up their chance in the Ryder Cup team. Now, that the top 6 automatic qualifying spots are filled, the players are trying to impress Johnson at the $75 million race. One such pro in the mix is Keegan Bradley.
The pro sat with the media after his first round and said he tries his “hardest” to not think about the Ryder Cup but everyone keeps asking him about it. The 37-year-old then dwelled on the thought of the two-year process of becoming part of the Ryder Cup team.
Talking about things riding on the Tour Championship, he said, “I don’t think everything is based on this tournament. But it might be.” The golfer then said that he badly wants to be on the team, but he knows his fellow golfer, Fowler, also desires the same thing.
“I mean, they know how much I want to be on the team. But I know Rickie wants to be on the team just as bad as I do. Whoever is looking to get picked,” he said.
