Iga Swiatek will be the top seed for a seventh consecutive Grand Slam after she held onto the world No 1 ranking ahead of the 2023 US Open.
The four-time major champion had to reach the quarter-final of the Cincinnati Open to avoid being usurped by Aryna Sabalenka and she ended up going one better as she made the semi-final while her main rival also lost in the last four.
But the end result was Swiatek securing her stay at the top of the WTA Rankings for a 73rd week in a row and the added bonus of being the top seed for the final Grand Slam of the year.
The Pole has won three of the seven Grand Slams where she has been top seed as she lifted the 2022 and 2023 Roland Garros trophies and the 2022 US Open.

Defending champion Swiatek is followed by Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina, Ons Jabeur, Coco Gauff, Caroline Garcia, Maria Sakkari, Marketa Vondrousova and Karolina Muchova.
The top two seeds will no doubt be eager to avoid the American pair of Pegula and Gauff in the draw as they are the hottest players on the WTA Tour. The duo have shared the three trophies on North American soil the past month as Gauff won the Citi DC Open and the Cincinnati Open while Pegula was victorious at the Canadian Open.
Three-time Grand Slam finalist Jabeur can also not be discounted as she finished runner-up to Swiatek at last year’s US Open and she was also finalist at Wimbledon in July, losing against Vondrousova.
Former world No 3 Elina Svitolina is also back amongst the seeds as the Ukrainian is set to be seeded 26th following her incredible performances this year. After returning from maternity leave in April, Svitolina reached the quarter-final of the French Open and the semi-final at Wimbledon to rise up the rankings again.
It is a Czech-heavy top 32 with Vondrousova and Muchova joined by Petra Kvitova, Barbora Krejcikova, Karolina Pliskova and Marie Bouzkova.
The top 32 players in the WTA Rankings the week before a Grand Slam are granted a seeding for the tournament, although organisers can use their discretion to make changes, but that seldom happens.
Unlike in the men’s list where a couple of the top 32 in the rankings have already pulled out of the US Open, the top 32 in the WTA Rankings are all set to feature at Flushing Meadows.
