US OPEN WOMEN’S SEEDS REVEALED: IGA SWIATEK GETS TOP SPOT AS ELINA SVITOLINA RETURNS

The seeds for the women’s singles event at the upcoming US Open have been revealed, with Iga Swiatek remaining as No. 1 and Elina Svitolina making a return to the top ranks.

World No. 1 Swiatek will enter the last Grand Slam of the year as the top seed, as she starts her 73rd week of dominating the WTA Rankings. This comes after her reign nearly came to an end at Wimbledon last month, when she was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

However, after world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka just missed out on the final at the grasscourt major, Swiatek’s position remained the same. The former will be playing as the second seed at Flushing Meadows and has another chance to usurp Swiatek if she does one better than or is defeated at the same stage as her.

Pegula and Gauff ones to watch as Svitolina returns
Meanwhile, the two American women in the top 10, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, will be entering as the third and sixth seeds respectively.

The pair, who have won five WTA titles in doubles together, are certainly ones to watch after emerging victorious at three tournaments so far on the North American swing.

Both have won a WTA 1000 tournament in the last two weeks, with Pegula securing the Canadian Open title in Montreal and Gauff winning the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The latter also achieved the victory at the DC Open, a WTA 500 tournament that took place at the start of the month.

Furthermore, former world No. 3 Svitolina has returned among the seeded players at No. 26. This comes after the Ukrainian player came back from maternity leave in March. She and her husband, French tennis player Gael Monfils, welcomed their baby daughter Skai last October.
