‘Not quite ready’: Andy Murray’s mum hints at shock backflip

Judy Murray has made the startling revelation that she doesn’t think Andy will retire just yet.

After initially saying this would be his last Australian Open and expressing his desire to finish his career at Wimbledon in July, Murray appeared to reconsider on Monday night.

After his first round loss, Murray came close to confirming it was his last Australian Open, but told the Melbourne Arena audience he would “maybe” see them again.

“I’ll do everything possible to try to go again,” Murray told the crowd in his on-court interview.

“I’d have to have a big operation to be able to come back but I’ll give it my best shot.”

That comment left a number of fans confused, with many believing Murray was definitely calling it quits this year.

‘Not quite ready to quit yet’
That doesn’t necessarily appear to be the case anymore, and Murray’s mother Judy says she thinks he could play on.

“I don’t know what he’ll do next. He probably doesn’t know yet,” Judy told the Guardian on Wednesday.

“He can take his time, there’s no rush to make any decisions. It all needs to be looked at and researched and weighed up.

“But, whatever he decides, I’ll be right behind him.

“Quality of life, of course, is massive and he’s got two little kids. He must enjoy life in the long-term.

“But you just get the sense that there’s something else in him, that he’s not quite ready to quit yet. So we’ll see.”
