Despite Having a Concerning Health Issue, John Daly Takes a Daring Decision Ahead of the 2023 Open Championship
John Daly is known for his non-traditional living style and defiance of boundaries, especially when it comes to physical fitness. However, this sedentary lifestyle and sub-par physical fitness haven’t hindered the golfer from delivering on the greens.
In fact, the recent Kaulig Companies Championship witnessed Daly not engaging in any workout before the game. Despite this, the golf veteran performed on the greens enthusiastically. Prior to his round, the golfer was seen in his golf cart providing updates on his health and workout. Additionally, he also enlightened the golf world on his daring decision ahead of the Open Championship.
As the golf icon sat in his cart, he voiced that it is still early for a 10:23 tee time. He opened up about his knee injury, one that has prevented him from consistently playing the game. Though the statements were shrouded in humor, they highlighted how difficult it might be for the golfer to deliver to his full potential.
The ‘Wild Thing’ (Daly’s nickname) expressed that after ten or eleven holes, his knee swells up. This makes hitting the golf ball strenuous for the 1991 PGA Championship winner. Hence, he believes that he must protect the swing or else he would be fighting for the rest of the rounds. This was the golfer’s reason behind not engaging in too much practice.
