“It Was Crazy “: Despite His Disappointing Absence, Tiger Woods Gets Invoked to the 2023 Open Championship Through Max Homa
One of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, the Open Championship is an event in which many players desire to participate. While there are strict guidelines for golfers to qualify for the championship, many of those who do manage to qualify often fail to make the cut. Such was the case for the current World No.8 Max Homa in the tournament that happened last year.
While the American golfer failed to qualify for the third round, he got to play with one of the greatest golfers of all time, Tiger Woods. He opened up recently about the experience of playing alongside his American counterpart. Fans were surprised as he termed the experience as nothing but “crazy”. Let us take a look at what made him say so.
In a recent interview with Golf Monthly, Homa recounted his experiences at the 2022 Open Championship. Although things didn’t pan out the way he wanted them to, he was able to play alongside one of his idols. While neither of the players could make the cut, he considers it an experience that he would never forget.
The 32-year-old continued by saying that he felt goosebumps as he listened to the applause that the great golfer received. “It was crazy, especially because it was at St Andrews, the walk up 18. Unfortunately he [Tiger] missed the cut, but walking up 18 the ovation he got was absurd. It made the hairs stand up on my neck.”. He went on to talk about how the round, which took six hours and fifteen minutes, was fun since he was playing it against Tiger Woods and 2022 US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick.
