After a long wait female golfers are finally getting the recognition they deserve. From elevated prize purses to paid accommodation facilities, lots of positive changes have taken place in women’s golf in the last few years.

And it is always good to get an appreciation for the efforts one is making. This is why the nomination of Nelly Korda and Rose Zhang for the ESPY awards this year is a big achievement for the LPGA.

Korda and Zhang are nominated for ESPY awards

LPGA has proudly announced that their two best players are nominated for the 2023 ESPY Awards in different categories. Nelly Korda is nominated for the Best Golfer category while Rose Zhang is nominated for Best Championship Performance for her Mizuho Americas win.

This is a humongous achievement for both the players who have delivered some great performances this year. The ESPY Award or Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award is a prestigious annual award that recognizes the individual and team athletic achievements made in the past year. This year the award ceremony will be held on July 12, 2023, at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles,

What Zhang managed to achieve in such a young career is genuinely commendable. Her latest outstanding achievement came at the Mizuho Americas Open where she became the second female player in history to win in her debut tournament. This magnificent win brought her worldwide fame and led to her comparison to the legendary Tiger Woods himself.

On the other hand, this will be a big boost for Korda who had to face setbacks because of her injury. Though she has to sit out some events, Korda remains among the top three players.

In her career, Korda has won eight times on the LPGA Tour and twice on the Ladies European Tour. Her big win in 2021 at the Women’s PGA Championship cemented her position among the best players of current times. And this recognition will be a balm after her latest performance at the US Women’s Open.

Recently both players competed at the prestigious US Women’s Open last week.

The event turned out to be great for Zhang who finished T9. A great achievement gained by the young star in a major championship! But, the event wasn’t that great for Korda who returned to the course after a short sabbatical. She finished T64.

Korda has had some issues with her form because of her wrist injury and subsequent pain which is reflected in her performance. But getting nominated for such a crucial category will be a cool aid for the athlete in her.

However, with her finishing third spot at the Chevron Championship in April she regained the No. 1 world ranking, which has gone one step down since.

Getting nominated for a prestigious award is a big feat for both players. This will definitely serve as a motivational booster for both to perform even better.
