Elena Rybakina addresses Wimbledon’s underwear rule change after using it
Elena Rybakina welcomed Wimbledon’s underwear policy change after using it in her opener at The Championships. For the 2023 Wimbledon edition, one of the changes made included allowing female players to wear colored underwear.
Last year, Wimbledon was urged to reconsider its all-white policy change as female players being forced to wear white underwear while on period was causing players to feel anxious and stressed on the court. After Rybakina was spotted wearing darker shorts in her Wimbledon opener, she was asked about the rule change that many WTA players have welcomed.
“I think it’s good to have an option. But the same time I was also fine with all white. I mean, it’s just I think changes are good, and we still have the same tradition to be in full white. It’s just maybe little adjustment. Overall I think it’s good, yeah,” Rybakina said after the match.
Rybakina addresses the WTA Big Three talk
Rybakina, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka have been without any doubt the three best players in 2023.
When Rybakina, Swiatek and Sabalenka started to pull away from the rest of the competition, some started calling them the WTA Big Three version. When asked it, Rybakina insisted there are more great players in the game.”Well, I hear that only on the press conferences.
I don’t follow so much on the Internet. I think just from the past results, people are saying that. There is still a lot of good players. I think it’s too early to say anything about just three players because it’s not like it was Roger or Djokovic.
It’s still too far. That’s why I don’t really focus on that. Yeah, anyone still can beat anyone,” Rybakina said.Meanwhile, Rybakina got off to a shaky start to her Wimbledon title defense but she was able to beat Shelby Rogers 4-6 6-1 6-2.
