Justin Thomas, Ryder Cup captains lead group of those reacting to Rickie Fowler’s first victory in 1,610 days

Justin Thomas shot 76-69 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic to miss the cut by five shots. But that didn’t keep the former World No. 1 from watching his good friend Rickie Fowler win Sunday when he made birdie on the first hole of a playoff against Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin.

Fowler hit his approach from 144 yards to three feet and made birdie on the 18th hole at Detroit Golf Club just to get into a playoff. Then later, from 180 yards out on the same home, he hit an approach to 12 feet and made it to win for the first time since the 2019 WM Phoenix Open. He earned $1,584,000 for his sixth PGA Tour victory.

Meanwhile, Thomas said that he was watching Fowler win via streaming on his phone. He joined Billy Horschel, Smylie Kaufman, Nick Faldo, Thomas Bjorn and others offering congrats to Fowler via social media.
