Andy Murray thinks he can win Wimbledon as Brit handed nightmare route to final
Andy Murray believes that a third Wimbledon triumph is ‘definitely possible’ this year despite being handed a nightmare route to the final at the All England Club. The Scot has struggled to stay fit over the last few years due to ongoing hip problems, which forced him to undergo two surgeries in 2018 and 2019 in a bid to correct the issue.
Murray has since managed to rebuild his career by getting himself back into the world’s top 40, a feat he achieved by winning the Nottingham Open earlier this month after tasting success at Surbiton the previous week. It seems as though his well-documented injury problems are well and truly behind him, giving him confidence that he can mount a genuine title challenge over the course of the Wimbledon fortnight.
“Last year, when I lost in the second round, it didn’t go as I wanted and it was really frustrating,” said Murray in a video on the Wimbledon website.
“This year it’s been very different in that I’ve had no issues and I have no excuses to not go out there and perform at my best. Physically it’s the best I’ve felt in a very long time. It’s not like it was when I was 25 but being able to build some momentum and consistency in my practices and my training and everything, that’s been really positive.”
