Rickie Fowler says he and two golf stars with combined total £175million net worth are eyeing Leeds investment

Three golfing stars have revealed their hopes of investing in Leeds United following their recent takeover by 49ers Enterprises.

Just under two weeks after their relegation from the Premier League, the new ownership completed a full takeover of the

49ers Enterprises, a United States investment fund linked with NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers, already owned 44 per cent of Leeds shares.

However, they have now acquired the remaining 56 from previous owner Andrea Radrizzani.

Amid the latest developments at Leeds, three of the PGA Tour’s stars in Fowler, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth are eyeing investment at the club.

When asked by Sky Sports ahead of the US Open if they’re a part of Leeds yet, Fowler said: “Not yet technically.

“There’s the group that’s moving forward with being involved with Leeds. Myself, JT [Thomas] and Jordan [Spieth]. Potentially we’ll be a part of it.”

He added: “It’s cool to have those opportunities. I know we’re looking into it, and it would be fun if we get to be a part of it. If not, we’ll continue to root for Leeds.”

As reported by The Sun, the trio have a combined net worth of just under £175million.

World no.10 Spieth leads the way with £95million, Thomas’ net worth is £47million and Fowler’s is around £31.5million.

Wrexham’s Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been regularly spotted at games since their takeover in 2020.

When asked if they would look to do the same with Leeds, Fowler replied: “That’d be great.

“Obviously they got relegated, but to be able to go to a Premier League, Champions League, any of that [would be great]. I just feel like, obviously it’s called football over there we call it soccer here, but it’s a massive sport.

“I feel like it’s continuing to get bigger in the States but I still, since I haven’t been to a game, don’t have a true appreciation until actually being able to go and be there and feel that energy.”
