Serena Williams shares message to Venus Williams after ‘s-Hertogenbosch return

Serena Williams told Venus Williams that she is a proud sister after following the seven-time Grand Slam champion’s return in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. After being out for half a year, former world No 1 Venus returned to action this week on the grass courts of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

In her first match back, 42-year-old Venus competed extremely well but in the end suffered a three-set loss as rising Swiss star Celine Naef beat the American 3-6 7-6 (3) 6-2. Serena, a former 23-time Grand Slam champion, was in the stands supporting her sister.

“So proud of this woman,” Serena captioned her Instagram Story.

Venus Williams grateful to Serena for coming
Even though Venus is set to turn 43 on Saturday, she still loves the game and absolutely enjoyed her return in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

The day after the match, Venus shared a lengthy message on her Instagram, in which she expressed gratitude to Serena and revealed that she didn’t feel any pain or soreness after the match. “Being on the court yesterday was thrilling!

Just as exciting my family all came to cheer me on. Also I know I have all the support of my fans which means the world to me. I’m really happy with how I played and I am just getting used to playing matches again which is to be expected.

The best news is I walked off the court yesterday not hurt and not even sore after a long match and a string of really challenging injuries which means I have a chance to build on yesterday’s performance in my next events.

It’s not easy to continue to come back after unexpected injuries and delays but that’s life and I love what I do and I believe in what I am doing. If you fall 10 times get up 11, never quit before the miracle. Thank you to the @libema open for such a wonderful week!” Venus wrote on Instagram. Venus Williams is also set to play in Birmingham next week.
