HAME, SET & MATCH Inside Andy Murray’s £5million mansion for sale with five bedrooms, swimming pool and cinema room
SIR Andy Murray has sold his old home for almost £5 million after having a new mansion built nearby.
The tennis ace put his previous property in Oxshott, Surrey, on the market last year after moving with wife Kim and their four children.
The house has five bedrooms, a swimming pool, cinema room, sauna and gym.
Property records show it has been sold for £4,950,000 – just £28,000 more than the £4,922,000 Murray paid for it in June 2009.
The double Wimbledon champion’s new home is just a few miles away in Leatherhead.
He and Kim bought the house, which has a tennis court in its 28 acres of grounds, in November 2016.
They initially built an extension before deciding to demolish it and build their own bespoke home in its place.
Plans submitted to the local council said the new house would be a two-storey home with five en-suite bathrooms on the first floor and a library and a study on the ground floor. It also has a large dining room, a larder and a snug room.
Murray’s architects said the existing house was “of no particular historic or architectural merit” and would be replaced by an “attractively designed property”.
Plans were also lodged for a swimming pool building, a gym, a massage room and a summer house.
Murray, 35, has previously said he intends to spend more time in Scotland when he retires from tennis but would remain living in the south of England as long as his family were happy there.
During this year’s Wimbledon, he said he planned to spend time living at a flat in London with his dad because his new home is further away from the All England Club.
He said: “I have rented an apartment, which my dad is staying in, but there’s an extra room.
“It’s very close to the tournament and, yeah, I may stay there if I have a late finish or an early match.
“We moved houses sort of around Wimbledon time last year.
“I’m a little bit further away now and with what’s been going on with the trains and stuff, traffic has been tricky.
“I don’t want to be in a situation where I’m spending an hour and a half to get here in the car, an hour and a half on the way home. So it’s just to potentially limit the amount of travel and be a little bit closer.”
