Brooks Koepka makes ‘chaos’ claim ahead of US Open round with Rory McIlroy
Brooks Koepka has made his feelings clear on LIV Golf’s controversial merger with the PGA Tour as he prepares for an awkward pairing with Rory McIlroy at the US Open
Nine-time PGA Tour winner Brooks Keopka has broken his silence following the news of the PGA Tour’s shock merger with LIV Golf. The merger puts an end to years of rivlary and the ongoing litigation battle.
After the news broke several golfers from both sides were quick to voice their opinions, with former World No.1 Koepka being the latest to speak out. The American made the switch to join Saudi-backed LIV Golf in 2022, joining such high-profile golfers as Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garciaand and Bryson DeChambeau.
Ahead of the first major tournament since the news broke, all eyes have been on the US Open at the Los Angeles Golf Club with pros from both sides of the divide taking part. One notable match-up is set to be the most awkward encounter Koepka pairs up with one of LIV Golf’s most outspoken critics, Rory McIlroy.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Koepka admitted he will thrive in the chaos. He said: “Like I’ve said, the more chaotic things get the easier it gets for me.
“Everything starts to slow down and I am able to focus on whatever I need to focus on while everybody else is dealing with distractions, worried about other things. I think there’s a few reasons (I peak at majors), but I think it’s definitely one of them. I enjoy the chaos.”
