Bianca Andreescu: I took time to reflect on myself as person and whole world
Former world No. 4 Bianca Andreescu is just grateful to be back on the court. Andreescu, 21, won the US Open in 2019 and reached her career-high ranking of No. 4 before a knee injury forced her out of the game for more than a year.
“At this point, I have to be grateful just for being back on the court since October 2019. t was a tough period, not only for me but for everyone,” Andreescu told the Australian Open TV, as revealed on Sportskeeda. Andreescu, now ranked at No.
46 in the world, is hoping to return to her best tennis in 2022. “I just want to go out there, play my best tennis, trust my capabilities and the training that I’ve had,” Andreescu said. “Hopefully I can do big things.”
Andreescu took some to think and reflect
“Outside of everything else, I did take time for myself to reflect on myself as a person and the whole world,” Andreescu said.
“The best athletes, they’re able to take it more as a challenge than a setback. I try to have that mindset too.” Unfortunately, Andreescu won’t be playing at this year’s Australian Open. “Hi everyone. As you all know, the past two years have been very challenging for me for a variety of reasons.
Especially this year in particular, I spent multiple weeks in in isolation, quarantining which affected me greatly — both mentally and physically. In addition, my grandmother spent several weeks in the ICU due to a COVID-19 infection.
A lot of days, I did not feel like myself, especially while I was training and/or playing matches. I felt like I was carrying the world on my shoulders. I could not detach myself from everything that was going on and off the court; was feeling the collective sadness and turmoil around and it took its toll on me,” Andreescu explained in a Twitter post in early December.
