Watch: Iga Swiatek funnily calls herself ‘boring’, RG crowd bursts into laughter

Iga Swiatek funnily apologized to the French Open crowd for being “boring” after giving a double bagel to Wang Xinyu. Swiatek, seeded at No 1, has now had four bagel sets at this year’s French Open after also ousting Wang 6-0 6-0.

During her on-court interview, Swiatek was talking about her focus and discipline before abruptly interrupting herself and saying she was “boring.” “I’m happy, it was a solid performance from me. It’s not easy to win and keep focus, so I’m happy that I took care of everything.

I don’t think if I played every point like a match point it’d be good, because match points are stressful. Every point is important, and at the highest level, every point matters. I want to be focused no matter what situation I’m in, because I’ll use that skill in tighter matches and games.

Since the start of the 2022 season, Swiatek has had 36 bagel sets.

Also, there have been numerous times when Swiatek would win a set with a 6-1 score. When on the court, Swiatek is fully locked in and sharply focused until the end of the match. In recent times, some have been suggesting that Swiatek might be a bit disrespectful by crushing her opponents so mercilessly.

But Swiatek insists her intention is never to disrespect her rival. “I really get that people think it’s fun to win 6-0, 6-0. But I want to respect my opponent and stay focused on my tennis,” Swiatek said. Last year, Swiatek won her second French Open this year.

This year, Swiatek has been through to the French Open round-of-16 without a set dropped. On Saturday, Elena Rybakina – who has beaten Swiatek three times this year – pulled out of the French Open due to a viral illness. Swiatek is playing great and she is definitely the No 1 French Open title favorite.
