Bianca Andreescu reveals her ultimate tennis goals and priorities
Bianca Andreescu says her short-term goal is to have fun and play her best tennis, while she also has her sight on winning multiple Grand Slams and becoming world No 1. Andreescu, 22, won the US Open and two Masters titles in 2019.
That same year, Andreescu achieved a career-high ranking of No 4 in the world. Andreescu, now ranked at No 27 in the world, suffered a scary ankle ligament in Miami in late March. After being out for a month, Andreescu returned to action in Madrid and she is hoping to kickstart her comeback in Rome.
“It would be nice to get back into the top 10, win another Grand Slam and other tournaments. But I just want to go on the court and have fun, play my best tennis, and give it my all. If I stay in the present moment, not think too far ahead, I know that I can accomplish my ultimate goal – to become world No.
1, and win multiple Grand Slams,” Andreescu told The Globe and Mail.
Andreescu feels there is still a lot to learn
Andreescu hasn’t won any titles since 2019 but there have been periods where she didn’t play much due to injuries.
Andreescu, who will be turning 23 in June, believes there is still room for improvement. “I’m still only 22 years old, and I feel like I still have so much more to learn about myself and my game. Who knows what I’m going to be in like in two or three years, even in the next six months,” Andreescu said.
In Madrid, Andreescu had a first-round bye before losing to Xiyu Wang in three sets in the second round. Next week, Andreescu will kick off her Rome campaign. In Rome, Andreescu is set to make her second appearance. Last year, Andreescu reached the Rome quarterfinal in her debut at the tournament.
