Days Before the PGA Championship, Jordan Spieth Suffers ‘Severe Pain’ and Makes a Disappointing Announcement

Jordan Spieth has had contrasting performances this season. Despite tying for fourth at the Masters last month, and narrowly missing out on victory in the playoffs at the RBC Heritage to Matt Fitzpatrick soon after, he missed the cut at Quail Hollow last week. Fans had hoped that he would redeem himself at the AT&T Byron Nelson this week, but they will be disappointed, as it will not be the case. The three-time major winner’s recent unexpected announcement could also raise questions about his participation in the fast-approaching PGA Championship.

The Texan has won two out of his thirteen PGA Tour titles in his hometown. He was excited about this week’s $9.6 million tournament in Dallas and playing in front of his friends and family, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be!

The world no. 10 tweeted about his injury and provided his fans with some disappointing news. Jordan Spieth wrote, “Over the weekend, I had severe pain in my left wrist… The AT&T Byron Nelson means the absolute world to me and I’m disappointed to miss it this week. Playing in front of family and friends in Dallas is one of the highlights of my year, and the tournament staff and volunteers are second to none. I look forward to being back next year and many years after.”

The AT&T Byron Nelson holds a special place in the 29-year-old’s heart. Jordan Spieth first played the event in 2010 and finished at T-16; last year he finished as a runner-up. The golf pro may have been looking to end his minor slump on the Tour at the TPC Craig Ranch, but that now won’t be possible!
