Novak Djokovic hasn’t played in Madrid for three years, but the 20-time grand slam winner received a champions welcome upon his arrival ahead of a potential showdown with Rafa Nadal.
Djokovic is making just his second ATP 1000 event appearance this year having been ineligible for tournaments due to his unvaccinated status.
The World No.1 also hasn’t featured in a tournament with Nadal since Roland Garros in 2021.
Ahead of his Madrid Open campaign, the three-time winner of the tournament was greeted by a flock of fans in the nation’s capital.
But the hype around his return didn’t end there.
The World No.1 then returned to the practice court at the Madrid Open and was welcomed with a rousing reception from a packed house.
