Days After Disappointing LIV Golf Update, Sergio Garcia Confidently Reveals Why He Remains Unfazed

On Saturday at the LIV Singapore tournament held at Sentosa Golf Club, Sergio Garcia hit an impressive 7-under 64, putting him in a tie for the second-round lead with Talor Gooch. Both players had 36-hole scores of 13-under 129. Garcia started his round on the first hole alongside Gooch and finished strong with birdies on three of his last four holes. Gooch also played well, scoring a 65 and finishing with birdies on his final two holes. In the press conference after the event, Garcia was questioned about the recent arbitration ruling.

The initial appeal for the case was made by Ian Poulter, Adrian Otaegui, and Justin Harding in July 2022. LIV Golf defectors such as Lee Westwood, Sam Horsfield, Richard Bland, Shaun Norris, Laurie Canter, Wade Ormsby, Patrick Reed, Bernd Wiesberger, Graeme McDowell, Sergio Garcia, Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace, and Martin Kaymer also later submitted the appeal.

In the press conference after round 2 at Sentosa, Garcia was asked about his opinion on the ruling that followed. Initially, he did not understand what was the reporter referring to. So he confirmed, “The one with DP World?”

Since he had withdrawn his application, he was not part of the ruling. “Yeah, I’m not part of it, so I don’t — I’m not really paying attention to that. We’ll talk to DP World and try to figure it out. But I’m not part of it, so it’s okay.”
