Jason Day details gruesome Tiger Woods’ PGA Championship injury amid Masters withdrawal
Tiger Woods withdrawal from last week’s Masters was the second time he has pulled out of an event in his last four starts, as the 82-time PGA Tour champion continues to struggle for fitness.
Jason Day has revealed the gruesome reason behind Tiger Woods’ withdrawal from the PGA Championship last summer, after the golfing great was once again forced to pull out of last week’s Masters. Woods’ injury woes continued at Augusta, and he was forced to call time on his week on Sunday.
The 15-time major champion made the 36-hole cut after finishing three-over-par for the tournament following his opening two rounds. Woods then struggled in tough conditions in round three, as he quickly moved to nine-over after picking up two bogeys and two double bogeys across his opening seven holes.
As the wind and rain continued to swirl around Augusta, Woods was put out of his misery after tournament officials suspended play until morning due to the weather. Ahead of the restart on Sunday, the five-time Masters winner then confirmed his withdrawal from the event as footage emerged of him hobbling across the course.
Discussing the decision, Woods’ close friend and competitor Jason Day said: “He looked like he was labouring pretty hard yesterday. It was obviously difficult to watch because he had to come back out and then play through all that yesterday morning, and then he had to take a little bit of a break and come back out and play again.”
Woods was making just his fifth start since suffering life-changing injuries in a car crash in February 2021. His initial comeback came at Augusta 12 months prior, before he turned out at the PGA Championship a little over four weeks later.
