Returning to the court, Sabalenka, during the World Tennis League that she is playing in Dubai, returned to talk about Wimbledon, and the situation of Russian and Belarusian tennis players, whose fate for the London Grand Slam is still unknown.
She said. “I don’t think I have any control over this situation. I am awaiting the decision and whatever happens, happens.” For this reason, she doesn’t even want to shoot herself in the foot, and, in case, she can’t return to Wimbledon again this year, a tournament that saw her reach the semifinals in 2021, on her last participation: “If they want to ban us from being there for another year that’s fine, whatever happens I’ll have fun at home in Miami, spend some time with my family and have another pre-season.
Whatever they decide, it’s up to them. I’m not interested in Wimbledon.” During her career Sabalenka won 11 trophies in singles and two Grand Slams in doubles, US Open and Australian Open with Elise Mertens. In this 2022 she failed to win any trophies even though she reached three finals including the WTA Finals in Fort Worth.
Now the Belarusian is playing in the World Tennis League in Dubai which could be useful for understanding at what point her physical condition is in view of the 2023 tennis season which she is increasingly upon us. The Wimbledon topic in the summer months had held the table for a long time due to the organization’s decision to ban Russian and Belarusian tennis players from being able to participate in the most important event on grass.
