Iga Swiatek was born on 31, May 2001 to father Tomasz Swiatek and mother Dorota Swiatek in Warsaw, Poland. Her father, Tomasz, was an olympian and represented Poland in the men’s quadruple sculls in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Her mother, Dorota, is a highly educated individual and has specialized in medicine as an Orthodontist. Her parents were present at Court Phillipe Chatrier in Paris at the 2022 French Open, to witness their daughter capture the second Grand Slam title of her career.
She defeated American teenage sensation Coco Gauff in straight sets in the final.
Swiatek also has an older sister whose name is Agata Swiatek. Her father, Tomasz, always encouraged his daughters to take part in different sporting activities, especially tennis.
Agata also played tennis during her teenage years but frequent injuries kept her out of the game. She chose to pursue dentistry at the Medical University of Lublin. As for Iga, the Pole took over the No.1 spot in the WTA rankings this year after Ashleigh Barty chose to retire from tennis in March.
Since then, the 21-year-old is having one of the best seasons of her career so far, winning eight titles, including two major titles. Her latest title-winning run came at the Flushing Meadows in New York, where she won the US Open Championships after outfoxing Ons Jabeur in the finals in straight sets.
