Coco Gauff ‘not too happy’ as Miami Open star opts for Fortnite over spring break parties

Coco Gauff will be playing on a games console rather than going out for spring break in Miami.

Coco Gauff has admitted she will be distracting herself by playing Fortnite in her room during the Miami Open while her friends are all out partying in the city for spring break. The annual tennis tournament is underway with qualifying matches. Although several star players are missing from the men’s draw, including Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, there’s still plenty of star power to see on the courts at Hard Rock Stadium.

Of that star power is Gauff who will face Rebecca Marino in her opening match at the Miami Open. However, with spring break in full swing, the 19-year-old American said that she won’t be partying in her hometown, but instead playing on a games console.

Speaking to Eurosport, the 19-year-old said: “I won’t be doing too much here, honestly, because I’ve seen the city so many times. And I feel like now it’s spring break so everybody’s, you know, partying and I can’t do that at the tournament and I’m underage still, so yeah.

“I think I’m just gonna be chilling in my hotel room, tell my brother to bring the Xbox from home, so I’m probably gonna be playing some Fortnite or something.”

The No 6 in world added how “thrilled” she was to be playing at the home of the Miami Dolphins – but noted how she wasn’t best pleased with her preparation ahead of the clay season.
