Alexandra Eala made tennis history at Flushing Meadows on Saturday.
Eala won the junior women’s competition at the US Open, becoming the first player from the Philippines to win a Grand Slam singles title.
Alexandra Eala actually did it. After the 17-year-old from the Philippines had won the doubles title at the Australian Open 2020 and Roland Garros 2021, she struck in singles for the first time on Saturday.
And in a convincing manner. Because Eala, who started the tournament as number ten, defeated the reigning winner of the singles at the French Open in the final with Lucie Havlickova.
And that after 68 minutes of play with 6: 2 and 6: 4.
Eala, who trains at the Rafa Nadal Academy, became the first player in her country to win a singles title at a Grand Slam tournament.
