Canada’s Brooke Henderson wins Tournament of Champions, her 13th career LPGA Tour title
Brooke Henderson superfan from Rochester, N.Y., drove his Subaru Forester down to Florida to watch Henderson play for the 63rd time.
Her agent, Brian Poe, flew into Orlando from Cleveland Sunday morning. And Zack Sepanik, the husband of Brittany Henderson, Brooke’s sister and caddy, rounded out the trio who, with parents Dave and Darlene Henderson home in Smiths Falls, were tasked with popping the celebratory champagne after Henderson captured the season-opening event on the LPGA Tour.
The spraying effort of the Veuve Du Vernay was lacklustre, the trio admitted, but it was the thought that counted; Henderson had won for the 13th time on tour.
The Canadian captured the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions by four shots, leading from wire to wire for the third time in her career.
A celebration was to come Sunday night, with gluten-free chocolate cake, as Henderson continues to push her record as the winningest Canadian in history on either the LPGA or PGA Tour.
The previous record was eight titles, held by three golfers.
