World No.1 Novak Djokovic and the injured Rafa Nadal have both been included on the Madrid Open’s entry list in a potential blockbuster showdown.
Djokovic is set to play back-to-back tournaments for the first time in 2022 as he is set to take part in the Monte Carlo Open this week
Djokovic has plenty of points to gain if he can make it past Round Three after an early exit in 2021.
However, Djokovic has also been included in the Madrid Open entry list.
And in a twist, Djokovic didn’t compete in Madrid last year and will be set to gain a huge number of points if he is to take part.
Djokovic is a three-time champion in Madrid (2011, 2016, 2019).
This will see Djokovic put distance between himself and World No.2 Daniil Medvedev in the ATP rankings, after the Russian announced he will undergo surgery.
Rafa Nadal under injury cloud for Madrid Open
Nadal was also included in the Madrid Open list, however the Spaniard remains under an injury cloud after hurting his ribs during Indian Wells.
Having won the Australian Open and Mexican Open in 2022, Nadal has been in sensational form until a rib injury ruled him out for 4-6 weeks.
Fans will be hoping the 21-grand slam champion recovers swiftly so he can kick-start his clay campaign in a search for a record-extending 14th Roland Garros title.
