Roger Federer comments on Russia – Ukraine war, announces big donation

 

 

Roger Federer says he is “horrified” by seeing the scenes from Ukraine as he has pledged to donate $500,000 to help the Ukrainian children. Federer, one of the greatest players in tennis history, has spoken out against the war as he has underlined that he and his family stand for peace.

 

 

“My family and I are horrified seeing pictures from Ukraine and heartbroken for the innocent people who have been so terribly affected. We stand for peace,” Federer announced in a message posted on his social media.

 

 

“We will provide assistance to children from Ukraine who need care, about 6 million Ukrainian children are currently out of school and we know it’s a very critical time to provide access to education and would like to support them to deal with this extremely traumatic experience.

 

 

“Through the Roger Federer Foundation we will be supporting War Child Holland with a donation of $500,000 to establish access to continued schooling for Ukrainian children.”

 

 

Federer not done yet
Federer has had three knee surgeries since 2020 but he is not done playing tennis as he is aiming to make a comeback during the second part of the season.

 

 

“After many month of battling injury, my return to the tour in March, after my first operation, highlighted and energized me to continue my tennis career. I’m grateful for every minute I was able to spend with my fans and tennis family on court.

My experience in Doha illustrated to me that my journey as an elite athlete isn’t over yet. The progress I make every day strengthens my belief that I will be healthy and strong enough to return to the tennis court at the highest level,” Federer wrote in his annual report.
