Andy Murray screams ‘shut up’ at Fabio Fognini in furious
Andy Murray screamed “shut up” at Fabio Fognini during their second-round match at the US Open on Wednesday, in a rare outburst from the usually mild-mannered Scot.
The incident occurred in the second set, when Murray was serving at 30-30. Fognini, who is known for his fiery temper, was making a lot of noise between points, and Murray eventually had enough.
“Shut up!” Murray shouted, as he walked to the back of the court to prepare for his next serve.
The umpire, Mohamed Lahyani, warned Fognini for unsportsmanlike conduct, but the Italian continued to complain throughout the match.
Murray eventually won the match in four sets, but the outburst was a rare sign of frustration from the former world No. 1.
It was not the first time that Murray has clashed with Fognini. In 2015, the two players had a heated exchange during their Davis Cup match, which Murray won in five sets.
Fognini is a talented player, but he is also known for his volatile temper. He has been fined on several occasions for unsportsmanlike conduct, and he has even been suspended from the tour for a year.
It remains to be seen whether Murray and Fognini will ever be able to play together without incident. But one thing is for sure: their matches are always entertaining.
