Emma Raducanu shared an insight into how her “unorthodox” Australian Open preparation looked after she sustained a left ankle injury just 10 days before the start of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. In Auckland, Raducanu badly rolled her ankle during her round-of-16 match.
Raducanu’s ankle was pretty sore and in a bad condition but the Briton managed to get herself fit enough to compete at the Australian Open. “A little insight into my unorthodox prep for the last grand slam in AUS this January.

Raducanu surgically fixed her left ankle
At the Australian Open, Raducanu won her opener before losing to Cori Gauff in the second round.
Raducanu then took some time to address her ankle injury before returning to action two months later in Indian Wells. Last month – after battling wrist and ankle injuries for quite some time – Raducanu decided to undergo multiple surgeries.
Raducanu’s second surgery was done on her left ankle. “It is safe to say the last 10 months have been difficult as I dealt with a recurring injury on a bone of both hands. I tried my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and end of last year by reducing practice load dramatically, missing weeks of training as well as cutting last season short to try [to] heal it.
Unfortunately, it’s not enough. I’m having a minor procedure done on both hands to resolve the issues. I’m disappointed to share that I will be out for the next few months and while I am at it will have another minor procedure that is due on my ankle.
It pains me that I will miss the summer events and I tried to downplay the issues so I thank all my fans who continued to support me when you did not know the facts. Looking forward to seeing you all back out there,” Raducanu said in early March.
