Chris Evert and Andy Mill’s 18-year marriage came to an abrupt end in 2006. The marriage fell apart because of Evert’s growing fondness for one of Andy Mill’s best friends, golfer Greg Norman. However, back when the tennis legend and alpine skier married in 1988, things were radically different. At the time, Mill and Evert were head over heels in love with each other.
Mill was the esteemed guest in the latest Wet Fly Swing Fly Fishing Podcast episode, and he spoke at length about how he and Evert met. He also went on to say what made their relationship click in the early days.
Colorado’s Aspen is where Evert and Mill’s love affair started. Martina Navratilova also had a role to play in the two meeting each other. In the podcast, Mill said that at the time, Evert “was in Aspen after Christmas”. Mill also revealed that it was Navratilova who “invited Chrissie to come out to Aspen to enjoy a week there before they headed to the Australian Open”.
Mill added, “I met Chrissy at a New Year’s Eve party and we had a lot of commonality”.
According to Mill, the fact that both he and Evert were athletes had a prominent role to play in strengthening their bond. Mill also revealed that at the time, “we were both going through a divorce.”
Back then, Mill was on the verge of separation from his first wife.
